The Boneyard

The Boneyard is the primary antagonist settlement in the Iron and Copper Series.

When the Chinese ICBM headed for Washington DC over the North Pole, was intercepted, it made an uncontrolled ground impact just outside JFK, dooming much of Long Island, with half a million fatalities and over 1.7 million injuries. The five-megaton warhead shotgunned radiation from Atlantic City to Norfolk, missing the bulk of Manhattan.

Most blast survivors, who didn't suffer immediate debilitating burns, came together and sheltered in place as most bridges leaving the island were blocked.

After the food riots began in Manhattan, scavengers began braving their way across the Brooklyn Bridge to plunder Long Island. Survivor groups banded together and built their own blockades on the bridge. Not long after, The Boneyard was established as a permanent settlement on the bridge itself. The structure was still sound, and the limited access to the bridge made it a safer settlement than the destroyed neighborhoods they had been living in.

The Boneyard is in a quasi-war with Iron and Copper as both settlements regularly send scavengers into Lower Manhattan.
